self works again

unfortunately, i got sick these days,

but i still keep doing some works,

the first one, actually, is for the presentation of ditto press project,

i found a cool image on the street, it's a poster of skull which construct by flowers.

i thought it might be cool if this image combine with the patterns i made,

so i took the experiment by screen printing, the outcome is almost the same as i expected,

but Ben, the ditto press tutor, said it's too complex, he wanna something more simple....

anyway, i still like the outcome.

another work is photography,

recently i learned the skill of developing photos,

this photo is the first one which been made all by myself.

working week

last week, i signed-up many work shops and did many own works.

the first one was darkroom workshop,

this is what i expected for since i joined this course,

i learned how to develope photos by myself,

it is so~~~interesting,

so far i dont have my own photos, i wanna post the photo i took, so we'll see.

the next workshop is screen printing. it's so cool to use this printing machine,

i used the copy of patterns from my project "ditto press" to make it,

i think the outcomes are great,  

i'll do some more in my free time.

the last one, i made it at home,

one of classmates made the outcome of the patterns, i think it's great,

so i tried to make mine also,

i used photoshop to make it,

it's quite nice~

unexpected work for ditto press

18th jan, we used dice to randomly fill up the squares

karl asked us to throw two time for each square, one for X co-ordinate, the other one is for Y co-ordinate.

we had to fill up 36 squares of 72. 

and we have 6 kinds of shapes to choose.

i was thinking, since we had to use dice to fill up, why not also use it to decide what shape i fill with,

so i threw three times for each square.

all we used are just dice, so it's cool and surprise that we could have these images,

 the second experiment is to used these images to describe three different statistics.

1. human populations

2. by-election results for oldham East and Saddleworth

3. football league table

this exercise is harder than i thought, not as easy as it looks.

the first one we used number of square to define the size of the area 

and used color of square to define how crowded is that area.

from the top, the area is Asia, Africa, the Americas and Caribbean, Europe, Oceania.

the second example we tried to make in 3d way.

the size and color are still symbol of group and numbers of people.

and we also linked them together to let them like a group of statistic.

the third one was killing us, maybe it was almost the time class had dismiss,

we couldn't find good idea for it.

still, we made it.

projects for my friends

these days, i helped my friends to work their projects,

they have to make some outcomes, but they are not good at using photoshop,

they told me their idea and concept, also gave me some sources,

they wanna images of colorful flowers combine with fashion,

actually, i don't make girly images very often, so it's a different challenge to me,

yes, i made few girly images before, but still not good as well.

anyway, after finished three images they asked, their responses let me feel i did a great job this time.

the second one is my favorite,

if anyone has any advise, please let me know.

cool coding

this day, 14th jan 2011

the class is about processing - digital automated drawing machine, using code to create patterns.

i didn't see any patterns teaching in that day, but still we learned some cool drawing machine,

it made by the software processing, using coding,

here is the code.

my major before this course is information management, 

so if i have time i won't refuse to understand what all the codes mean.

looks complex, but actually it's easier than we thought.

we used two kinds of drawing machines, the first one is drawing lines,

the line starts on the top-left hand side, it will draw by following the mouse,

and when you click it again, it will automatically export to pdf file.

this is the lines i created.

with this program, i can draw some images which i have never expected, such as this one.

another program, it will start running the image like colorful smokes randomly, and when you click it again, it will automatically export to pdf file, too.

i created three images, all of them are cool to me.

after finishing the class, on my way home,

i was thinking how could i extend this images into more interesting picture.

i think the image combine with person might be a interesting idea because we are graphic communication design students, we should always focus on communicating with people.

i made a quick sketch of my idea on the bus.

when i got home, i start creating the image,

there's a bit different with my sketch, i don't have the photo of person i want,

 i decided to choose the photo with only head.

here is the outcome.

this one is the first one, after finished this, i think i'm gonna make a collection for all my friends.

new term, new project, new energy

the christmas holidays has ended, i have to more improve myself on the new term.

i'll work harder on my course and blog, start this term.

the first class i joined is the brief of my new project "ditto press"

we went to the work place of ditto press, the room is middle-size but full of their works,

the director Ben introduced the machine of printing and showed some of their works for us.

 this project we are gonna make some prints to let their audiences attract of the printing machine

i really feel exciting about this.

the next day, 11st of Feb 2011, we started researching the skills we need of this project.

because this printing could only print 12 colors in basic, we have to learn creating image in only few color. we start analysing and separating the colour of image. 

this is the image we used to practice, karl wanted us to use the shape of this image to separte the color,

the first part of this photo i catched is the gradient colors of the sky, so i tried to make that in three papers 

at first i felt it doesn't look very well, then i realized it looks nice if looking at it in a distance.

 the second exercise is to make patterns, it's much harder than i thought.

i used the spots to create my first pattern

i put 4 sources of spots together and cut them in center by rolling out.

 finished cutting! 

 i wanted to stick in ordinary at first, but i accidentally found that it might be cool if i made some turn, so final outcome is like this.

i copied it to 4 and sticked them together, it's quite nice i think.

here is another i made, because the first one took me too many time, this one ,

 to me, is the ordinary one.
